HIPs latest

All homes offered for sale or rent will require, from 1 October, an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC). The requirement includes homes offered for sale before Home Information Packs (HIPs) were introduced, which were previously exempt. EPCs are an essential constituent of a HIP.

Commercial properties of less than 2500 square metres will also require an EPC from 1 October.

In the wake of a great deal of criticism from the public and professionals alike, the Government launched a consultation in July containing proposals designed to improve the ‘quality and flow’ of information in HIPs. The consultation closes on 30 September and changes to the HIPs regime may be expected in 2009.

Lastly, information for the public relating to HIPs is being moved to the ‘Directgov’ website .
