Whistleblowing

The term whistleblowing applies where an employee discloses acts of your business that are either unsafe or illegal. If you have an employee taking or considering taking this action, you need prompt and professional legal advice. We can help you.

Whistleblowing

The Public Interest Disclosure Act 1998 sets out the circumstances where an employee can make a protected disclosure if they have a reasonable belief that any of the following acts have been committed:

  • A criminal offence
  • Acts causing environmental damage
  • Health and safety issues
  • Miscarriages of justice
  • Failure to comply with a legal duty
  • Covering up any of the above acts

A whistleblower can cost a business vast sums of money in terms of adverse publicity and legal costs. We can provide you with advice at the outset of all of your options so that you can make an informed decision on the action you should take to defend your business.
