Ikea To Start Selling Flat-Pack Solar Panels

The world of home furniture and home improvement is becoming commoditised at an alarming pace – the Swedish megastore Ikea has gone a long way to help with this transition, and now they are promising to offer flat-packed solar panels for the most modern and forward thinking of UK households.

Although with these the infamous self-assembly will be ditched – the alarming price of approximately £5,000 does include installation.

Solar Panels

Within 10 months, solar panels will be rolled out across all UK Ikea stores – partner solar energy firm Hanergy and will have in-store point of sale displays and will allow potential customers to get a feel for the equipment itself and ask any pertinent questions.

It is believed that an average 3-bed semi-detached home could earn up to £768 through reducing their bills and selling excess energy they generate. Within the first seven years, the upfront cost of the panels should also be offset.

The Head of Sustainability at Ikea, Joanna Yarrow, says it’s a positive step forward for UK homeowners and, the environment and their wallets.

Ikea themselves have installed more than 500,000 solar panels on the roof of their stores around the world.
